Weather compensation explained
So what is weather compensation? Weather compensation (WC) is a sensor fitted on an external north facing wall of your property, this sensor communicates with your boiler. When the temperature outside changes the boiler will adjust for more or less output to sustain your required indoor temperature all year round while using a minimal amount of gas.
Weather compensation will save you money in more than one way
Your current controls are what is called on/off. This mean when your turn your boiler on, the output of boiler goes to absolute maximum and burns gas like its free. Either your room thermostat will be satisfied so your boiler will turn off or your boiler will start to get too hot so it will turn off then back on once the temperature decreases.
I’m going to use a car as an example here.
Driving along a motorway at a steady 60mph and when a hill approaches pushing down on the gas some more to compensate for the hill and maintain your speed. This is more efficient than…
Jumping in your car and putting your foot down going straight to 100mph then stopping. Then back to 100 when the road clears then stopping again all the way along the motorway.
We avoid this because its inefficient and uses more fuel, which means more money spent.
With weather compensation, your boiler will turn on and off a lot less and will be saving you money on gas bills. Recent tests show that using weather compensation can save from 10-30% on gas consumption. Together with your home constantly being comfortable and the fact you wont need to turn your heating on, weather compensation is a win win situation.
